Why The Stop and Start Technique Is Ineffective for Premature Ejaculation

Firstly, what is the Stop and Start Technique?

The Stop and Start Technique is a simple exercise and a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is commonly believed to help with treating premature ejaculation naturally.

So, how does it work? It all starts with finding some private time alone to masturbate with dry hands. You are then encouraged to masturbate almost to the point of ejaculation and then immediately stop. This should be done at least three times. On the fourth time, you can allow yourself to ejaculate.

Once you have achieved this, you can then try the same exercise with wet hands, which would feel more like the inside of a vagina depending on what you wet your hands with (eg. water, lube, lotion).

With constant practice, you should be able to last longer.

The Stop and Start Technique can also be used to describe a common method men use to last longer during sex, which involves simply stopping during sex and withdrawing the penis from the vagina, and then going at it again.

The Stop and Start Technique… Ineffective? Here’s why!

When it comes to premature ejaculation there are often psychological difficulties as well as behavioral and mechanical ones. While this simple technique can help with one of the behavioral causes of premature ejaculation, it fails to address other underlying problems and root causes such as psychological difficulties.

Not only that, but when using the Stop and Start Technique the arousal tends to build up and what happens is, the level of arousal basically stays where it’s at.  So if you are having sex and almost about to ejaculate, you could stop for 30 seconds, and as soon as you start up again, you will often feel like you’re going to ejaculate almost immediately. And the longer you stop, the more you risk losing your erection.

Unfortunately, it’s the same problem with masturbation. You could wack off, stop at the point where you’re about to ejaculate, and then find yourself at the same level of arousal and about to ejaculate when you resume. And for these reasons alone, it might be best to skip this one if you’re considering trying it.

Nonetheless, if you have any personal experiences with the Stop and Start Technique, you are welcome  to share them by leaving a comment. :)
